Reefbook Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't my tank show up in the search results?
In order for your tank to show up in the search results, you need to meet two criteria. First, your tank profile must have a tank profile picture uploaded. Second, your tank profile must have the "Tank Information" section completed. It only takes a few minutes to complete. We ask that you keep this information updated at all times. Remember that the more complete your tank profile information is and the more activity on your profile (i.e. *quality* photo updates, photo tags, comments, etc.) it will increase your sites rank in our search results and thus your tank will likely be viewed more frequently.

How do I get my tank featured on the homepage?
At this time the images shown on the homepage are selected by our team. However, we have plans for the near future (remember this is still a beta website, and we're continually working to improve the website) to automatically select tanks to be featured on a regular basis, allowing everyone in the community the opportunity to be featured in the homepage spotlight.

The site looks messed up in browser XYZ?
Please let me know if you experience any problems with the site. The site is heavily based on JavaScript, which sometimes causes issues with older browsers such as IE6. All up to date browsers should not have any issues; however, I'm working out the compatibility issues with older browsers as they pop-up, so please feel free to bring them to my attention by emailing me at team@reefbook.com. Please include the browser version (Internet Explorer 6.2, etc.) or device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) you are using.

Who's behind this site?
This site is the sole work of a fellow reefer like yourself. Although I must give credit to some of name-less soles that provided some open-source or free widgets to make this site possible (I will provide a list of credits shortly). I am an independent software developer, married and no kids (hence why I have some free time to spare I suppose). I decided that I was tired of forums and just wanted to see people's cool set-ups and to create something different for the reefing community. I have no company backing me or sponsors yet and so far I am flipping the bill and using my spare time to give back to the community. I hope you enjoy my work and make this site a success with your help. You can reach me at team@reefbook.com; however, I cannot guarentee that I can reply to all emails. Emails of support are always welcome!

What software package did you use to create this site?
We looked at some of the commerical software packages out there, but decided to build the entire website from the ground up. The reason for this is that we want to make this website a 100% geared towards our hobby. There's no sense in trying to make a square peg fit into round hole. By developing the site from the ground up, we plan on making a long term investment into the website and improve it based on our fellow reefer's needs. If we choose something off the shelf, we likely wouldn't be able to offer that promise to our users. We think we should be proud of that and hope that you support us in growing this community.
